Recruitment Rundown
Rees took his time evaluating and chasing quarterbacks in the Class of 2022. He sent out his first two offers in August and Angeli received one. It was obvious from that day that the Irish would be in the race until the end. The only thing that seemed to be holding things was Angeli's inability to get to South Bend for a visit. He was able to visit for the first time in December, but still waited until March before closing things down.
Angeli has been solid with Notre Dame ever since. He also had offers from Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, LSU and Oregon among several others.
Bergen Catholic Head Coach Vito Campanile
“I think it's a great fit on every level. Obviously, as I say, all the time to you, I think it's a really good fit for what our school's about and what Notre Dame is about. The thing that stands out to me is unwavering support of one another, there's going to be solidarity in everything that we do. We're going to stand for team first. We're going to be committed to the tradition of our school. We're going to have the courage to get out in front of everything, we're willing to compete with the very best.
“Our goal at Bergen Catholic is always to be the number one football team in New Jersey. I think the goal at Notre Dame is to be the number one football team in America. It's very rare that kids get the opportunity to have that common message driven into their mindset every day for both high school and the college experience. I appreciate that.”
ISD Expert Jamie Uyeyama
Angeli doesn't have one trait where he's elite and he's not a true dual-threat. That right there might be enough to consider his ceiling lower than many other quarterbacks in this recruiting cycle.
However, there might not be one area where he isn't a plus. He's accurate, has a good feel in the pocket, can escape the rush, and has above average arm talent. It doesn't hurt that just led Bergen Catholic to an undefeated season and a state title either.
I believe that most view him as a stop-gap quarterback between landing Tyler Buchner and an elite player in the 2023 class. That's discounting Angeli's talent and no one should do that before he hits campus. He has starter potential, but he'll likely have to be patient and grind away at it before he gets an opportunity.

“As soon as I turned onto campus and driving down that big strip and seeing the Golden Dome for the first time was like, ‘Oh man! That’s unreal.’ Being able to see that in person, right off the bat, I was like, ‘Wow!’”
