In the end, the initial reaction proved telling. Just days after receiving his offer from the Irish in January, Tuihalamaka decommitted from USC, where he'd been committed for almost a year. Notre Dame remained in pole position throughout and while he took an official visit to Texas at the start of June, even that provided further pro-Irish insight.
Tuihalamaka didn’t hide the fact that he rescheduled that visit to Austin so that Notre Dame would be the last visit he’d take. Just days after the trip to South Bend in June, he announced he'd commit later that week.

Tuihalamaka has the potential to develop into an elite defender against the inside run. He certainly can be a weapon as a pass rusher as well. It’s not out of the question that he becomes an outstanding two-down linebacker.
He’s someone whose physicality could see him competing early in his career and if utilized in the correct role, he could succeed very early as well. He has some deficiencies in his game, but his strengths are why he has the potential to be a multi-year starter and outstanding run-stuffer.
