Notre Dame has officially named Gerad Parker as its next tight ends coach as John McNulty departed for Boston College.

“I have been fortunate enough to coach with Gerad previously in our careers,” said Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman. “The energy he brings each and every day is contagious. It is part of what makes him a great leader. He is also a very detailed teacher and that combination of skills is going to make us a better program.”

Parker was on campus for an interview at the beginning of the month and comes to South Bend from West Virginia where he was the offensive coordinator in 2020 and 2021 before being named co-offensive coordinator for the 2022 season.

Freeman and Parker are familiar with each other as they were at Purdue together from 2013-16 and then at Cincinnati during the 2017 season. Parker coached the tight ends and receivers during his time at Purdue while also being the recruiting coordinator before being named interim head coach in 2016 after Darrell Hazell was fired.

Parker played at Kentucky in the early 2000s and was a four-year letterman for the Cats following a record-setting prep career at Lawrence County High School. The Kentucky native set state receiving records with 238 catches, 4,814 yards and 52 touchdowns in high school.
