Coach | 2024 S Corian Gipson One For Notre Dame, Others To Watch
Notre Dame has already shown genuine interest in 2024 Texas running back Kewan Lacy and through that recruitment, the Irish are sure to learn more about Lacy’s Lancaster High School teammate, 2024 safety Corian Gipson.
“He's a 2024 safety/corner,” says Lancaster High School recruiting coordinator Kevin Whitley.
In fact, Notre Dame assistant coach Chris O’Leary is already aware of Gipson.
“The safeties coach came down, Coach O'Leary,” Whitley says. “He came down in mid-December.
“That was the last time he came down to see Corian and a few others. Of course, we just got Kewan a couple months ago.”
Lacy transferred in from Nolan Catholic High School after this past season.
Gipson already has offers from schools like Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Arkansas, Arizona and Arizona State among others.
The 6-foot, 165-pound Gipson is a prospect with plenty of potential, according to Whitley.
“He is long,” the coach says. “He's got some twitch. He can play corner and safety. He's a great kid. He's smart. He has upside, he's still growing. He's our fourth leg on 4x1.”
Whitley, who also coaches track at Lancaster, is expecting a big year from Gipson on the track, who anchored a 4x100 relay squad that went 41.4 in its very first meet.
“I think he's going to run the open 200 and he's going to anchor the 4x1,” says Whitley. “He's young, but he can run. He can run.
“He doesn't love track, but he's understanding that it's helping him. It is helping him tremendously just from a competition standpoint and that speed is going to translate over to the field.”
Whitley says Lacy wouldn’t only be interested in the Irish, but would be encouraged to be interested in the Irish by the staff at Lancaster. He says the same for Gipson and would suggest both make their way to South Bend if they have the chance.
“If Notre Dame is on them hard like that, then I would definitely recommend them trying to get up there this summer for sure as one of their stops.”
