Trainer | Notre Dame LB Target Ta'Mere Robinson A Potential Fit For Irish
DeWayne Brown certainly knows NFL talent, so when he compares a top Notre Dame target to a former Irish player who is now making a name for himself in The League, it’s worth paying attention to.
Brown, the owner of 2/10ths Speed & Agility, has trained countless pro football players, including All-Everything Aaron Donald.
Brown also trains 2023 Pennsylvania linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson who is scheduled to make another visit to South Bend this week.
“He's got a skillset where he could play multiple positions,” Brown says of the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder. “He could play safety, he could play linebacker, he could play inside linebacker. He could play defensive end if he has to.
“His skillset separates him from a lot of players who I've seen in the country. His football IQ is very high and he's a leader also.”
In addition to the Irish, the Brashear High School standout also has offers from schools like Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Ole Miss and USC among several others.
Brown expects Robinson’s game to grow as he becomes a better pass rusher.
“I think that will be a thing you'll probably see more,” he says. “When Ta'Mere first started coming around, we taught him how to cover first. Instead of taking a kid like that and starting him down in a box, we did the opposite; started him covering and then moved him down, so that's where his versatility came in.”
With football becoming more and more of passing game, Brown and his company recognize the importance of giving players the ability to maximize their time on the field.
“The game is a passing game now, so if you're able to be a long athlete and you're able to cover guys, that gives you more value,” he says. “If he was 6-5, 6-6, that would be different, but he's 6-3.5 with the long arms. You could put him on a tight end, you could put him on a running back, you can blitz him and if he's got to play safety, he can do that. We've seen that with Micah Parsons.”
It’s one of the reasons Brown believes Robinson and Notre Dame could be a good match.
“It's one of those schools that fits right with what he does,” says Brown, who compares Robinson to former Notre Dame and current Cleveland Browns star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
“Kind of similar-type style.”
Penn State could be tough to beat, but there’s “definitely” strong mutual interest between Robinson and the Irish.
Robinson’s junior season was cut short by a knee injury, but Brown says he’s past that now.
“He's bounced back already,” the trainer says. “He's already got his weight back up to about 218, 220. We always stay in touch with him, making sure his head is right. He's right on...actually he's ahead of schedule.”
