2024 DL Kavion Henderson Discusses Recruitment, Notre Dame
2024 Leeds (Ala.) defensive lineman Kavion Henderson had a big sophomore season, which put him on the national map.
The 6-foot-3, 248-pounder knows the work is just beginning and Henderson is focused on making sure he has a big offseason.
"My goal is to get bigger, stronger and faster," Henderson told ISD. "I want to work on my hands and my technique.
"I want to get to 250. I know in the spring, we're going to be conditioning a lot. I want my in-season weight to be around 240."
Notre Dame is a program that could be poised to make a move in Henderson's recruitment sooner than later as Al Washington has started building a relationship with the Leeds star.
"I've know Coach (Mike) Moon came to the school earlier this year, but I didn't talk to him because I'm a 2024," explained Henderson. "I've talked to Coach Washington, the new defensive line coach. I think they're going to offer people in my class on St. Patrick's Day."
The Alabama native is grateful for the interest from Notre Dame and if an offer comes, it would be a significant one for Henderson.
"I remember watching Notre Dame on TV when my granddad was living when they played Alabama," said Henderson. "It's a blessing to know I'm on their recruiting board and they're looking at me.
"It would mean a lot. Every offer is a blessing and I'd definitely take it into consideration. Notre Dame is a good school and Coach Washington is a great coach. I'd love to play for them."
Henderson is no stranger to big-time offers, but he's not in a rush to make a decision as he's taking everything in stride.
"Having a lot of offers can get difficult because you can only choose one school at the end," stated Henderson. "It's a blessing. I'm taking my time and building relationships.
"When I got my first offer, it shocked and surprised me a lot. After that, I know I had to be humble and put God first. They kept rolling in as I kept working hard, going to camps and competing."
As for visits, Henderson will look to make several trips in the coming months, including a possible trip to Notre Dame as he wants to be worked out by Washington at camp.
"I have a lot of visits coming up," said Henderson. "We're going to Arkansas. I'll be at UCF on March 25th. I'm visiting Georgia again and I'm looking to go to USC, Texas Tech and more schools, but I haven't mapped out dates yet.
"I'm going to try to go to Notre Dame in the summer, so I can work with Coach Washington."
