2024 RB Davion Gause Ready To See Notre Dame, Meet McCullough
Davion Gause doesn’t know a ton about Notre Dame, which is one reason the 2024 Florida running back will be making the trip up to South Bend this weekend.
“I'm looking to learn about more about the tradition, the people, the fans, stuff like that,” the 5-foot-11, 205-pounder told Irish Sports Daily.
“I'm very excited. I've been talking to the running backs coach, Coach (Deland) McCullough.”
The Chaminade-Madonna Prep standout landed an offer from the Irish during their Pot of Gold recruiting push on St. Patrick’s Day.
“I wasn't expecting it,” Gause said. “My coach didn't know if they were going to offer me or wait on my transcript. I was waiting on it as me and Coach McCullough were building a relationship.”
McCullough delivered the news and they’ve been building a relationship since.
“We've just been having regular conversations, getting to know each other more, talking about how our days have been doing,” Gause said of himself and McCullough. “He's been telling the running back drills he's having the running backs go through up there, stuff like that.
“I'm excited to see him in person.”
Gause also has offers from schools like Miami, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Michigan and USC among several others.
He comes into the trip with a limited understanding of what Notre Dame is all about.
“I know that it's a private school,” he said. “It's a Catholic school and the classes are pretty difficult.”
He’s taken visits to in-state schools like Miami, but hasn’t been much farther and doesn’t have any other plans to do so yet beyond Notre Dame.
He does know what he’s looking for in a college.
“A great relationship running back coach, how they're going to use me in their offensive scheme, truth and that's about it,” he said, adding he believes his talents would be best-served in a up-tempo, spread offense.
