Brandon Davis-Swain‍ already knew plenty about Notre Dame, the campus environment and the education offered in South Bend.

The final piece of the puzzle for the 2024 Michigan defensive lineman was first-year Irish defensive line coach Al Washington.

With that puzzle complete, Davis-Swain gave his commitment to the Irish on Saturday, making him the first pledge in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class.

“We have a good relationship,” Davis-Swain said of himself and Washington. “I talk with him once a week. When he first got the job, we really just hit it off.

“He was just talking about the school and just checking up on me, seeing what I was doing.”

The West Bloomfield High School standout was offered by the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Iowa, Boston College, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee and West Virginia among others.

“They said they would put me on the edge or they could move me inside,” the versatile prospect explained.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder said the coaches “got super excited” when he told them the news.

“I told my dad first and then I waited for the coach to get back and told him,” he recalled. “Coach Freeman said, ‘Congratulations! Welcome to the family!’

“He’s super, super cool. I think they’ll do good things this year.”

Davis-Swain didn’t waste anytime turning from recruit to recruiter and has already reached out to quarterback CJ Carr, a fellow top prospect from the state of Michigan in the Class of 2024.

Davis-Swain will remain in touch with Washington and is looking forward to returning to South Bend in the future.
