2024 St. John Bosco (Calif.) linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa‍ had last weekend circled this spring as he was excited to get his first look at Notre Dame.

The trip to the Midwest didn’t disappoint as the California native was blown away from the moment he walked down the tunnel at Notre Dame Stadium.

"It was great," Viliamu-Asa told ISD. "It was a very good trip. It was crazy. It was a great environment for a spring game. They definitely have a strong fanbase."

The trip also allowed the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder to understand what Notre Dame could provide him outside of football.

"I learned about what Notre Dame has to offer off the field," Viliamu-Asa said. "That really stood out as far as academics and setting you up for life after football."

Notre Dame's defense was vanilla during the Blue-Gold Game, but the linebackers made plenty of plays, which impressed Viliamu-Asa.

"They fly around," said Viliamu-Asa. "They're violent and they do a lot of different things. I liked it."

Viliamu-Asa also noticed a few familiar names making plays on Saturday. Early enrollees Junior Tuihalamaka and Jaden Mickey were playing California high school football six months ago and yet made plays in Notre Dame's spring game.

"It definitely stands out," stated Viliamu-Asa. "I'm from the West Coast. Him and Jaden Mickey are doing their thing and getting in the rotation. I love to see things like that."

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman also connected with Viliamu-Asa during the trip and he left a positive impression during their conversation.

"I met with Coach Freeman on Friday," explained Viliamu-Asa. "He was explaining how great of a place Notre Dame is and how they can develop me. He told me about everything Notre Dame can offer."

New Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden also impressed Viliamu-Asa as his personality shined, but he also spoke about his time in the NFL.

"He's a real dude," Viliamu-Asa stated. "I know he has a lot of experience coming from the NFL, so there is no question about his football knowledge. Coach Golden is real genuine and I know he gets the best out of his players."

Viliamu-Asa hopes to be back in South Bend this fall as he wants to see Notre Dame Stadium at full capacity.

"One thing I want to do is come back for a game and get the full Notre Dame experience," said Viliamu-Asa. "I'll be back."
