Notre Dame OL Signee Aamil Wagner Finishing Up Business
Aamil Wagner has kept plenty busy since participating in the All-American Bowl down in San Antonio back in January.
“Since then, I finished up my basketball and indoor track season,” the 2022 Notre Dame offensive line signee says. “I did those at the same time. I ended up winning the state title for indoor shot put. In basketball, my team ended up winning the district title.
“Since then, I've just been doing outdoor track and throwing shot and disc. Right now, I'm currently ranked number one in the state, so I'm looking forward to indoor and outdoor state titles.”
It would mean a lot to the Wayne (Ohio) High School athlete to finish his high school career on top.
“One of the biggest things that's always been taught in my house and of course in the school I go to is to always compete,” he said. “Having the ability to compete in the football offseason and compete with other elite athletes around the state is an amazing feeling. To be able to go out on top, number one is a feeling I'm looking forward to.”
Wagner has been incorporating the weight training plan he received from Notre Dame after Signing Day along with his workouts for the Wayne track program.
He dropped some pounds following an illness this winter, but has added weight consistently since.
“I've been around 255, 260 and I'm looking forward to coming out around 265,” he said. “If can get there, it'll be the best for me really.”
Wagner is “extremely” excited about getting to Notre Dame for good next month.
“My goal is just hit the ground running when it comes to academics and football as well,” he said. “Just get a chance to get a fast start and be on top of everything when I first get there and just get settled in.
“It's going to be my first time moving outside of my house. I've lived in the same house since I was a little kid. So, it'll be my first time adjusting to a new element, adjusting to a new place, so get a chance to settle in and hit the guard running and just do the best I can.”
Wagner was in South Bend for the spring game last month and had the chance to hang out with future classmates Eli Raridon and Holden Staes.
He was also impressed with the development of the current players on the roster.
“It was good just to see how far people have come since they've been there and to how we've developed as a team since the last time I was able to see them play in person, which was the USC game.”
