2023 WR Malik Elzy Talks Notre Dame, Official Visit Plans
The interest between Notre Dame and Malik Elzy seems to be growing steadily.
The 2023 Illinois wide receiver has already been to South Bend multiple times, most recently for the Irish’s spring game in April.
Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey stopped by Simeon Career Academy in Chicago to check on Elzy during the Evaluation Period.
Meanwhile, the 6-foot-3, 198-pounder has stayed in touch with both over the phone.
“Coach Stuck's message is 'Just take your time,’” Elzy says. “‘It's going to be hard, but you're going to know the right place. You're going to feel it in your heart.'
“Coach Rees is just telling me they're missing a receiver; a big-time receiver and I could be that big-time player to come play at Notre Dame and be that big-time receiver they need.”
Elzy was offered by the Irish last summer. He also has offers from schools like Michigan, Oregon, Illinois, Cincinnati, Purdue, Boston College, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Tennessee among others.
Still, he was fired up that Stuckey and Rees stopped by his school.
“Man, that was big,” he said. “Notre Dame is a big school, they've got a big tradition, so that means a lot to me.”
He has an interesting plan for his official visit schedule.
“I'm going to take (two) officials and then my last three are probably going to be the top schools, the last three officials I take,” he said.
He’s set to take officials to Illinois and Cincinnati at the start of June.
“After them two, I'm going to wait and shut my recruitment down and just see my schools and whatever those top three schools are, I'm going to take officials to and then that's that,” he said.
“So hopefully I get one set up with Notre Dame.”
Michigan, Oregon and Purdue are among the other contenders to get one of those final official visits, which may not come until the fall.
