BREAKING | 2023 OL Joe Otting Commits To Notre Dame
Joe Otting didn’t need to take his unofficial visit to Notre Dame before deciding he wanted to take an official.
And, more importantly, the 2023 Kansas offensive lineman didn’t need to take his official to decide Notre Dame was the place he wanted to be.
Otting just announced his commitment to the Irish, giving the Irish 14 commitments in the Class of 2023 and three offensive linemen, joining Sam Pendleton and Sullivan Absher.
Following an unofficial visit to South Bend this past weekend, the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder chose the Irish over offers from schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State and Baylor among others.
“Just the great o-line play, the coaches there, the people around the program and also the academics,” Otting told Irish Sports Daily of his decision prior to going public.
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman certainly hammered home the long-term message during his meeting with Otting and his family.
“He was just saying how this program would be great for my future with the network and academics while also playing for a great football team,” Otting said of Freeman’s pitch.
Meanwhile, Irish offensive line coach Harry Hiestand talked about how much of a fit the Hayden Catholic High School standout is for Notre Dame both on and off the field.
“It was more of just the toughness and the type of person I am and I fit Notre Dame and athletically, what I would bring and what type of player I am,” Otting said of the message from Hiestand.
With Otting, Pendleton and Absher in the mix, Notre Dame is still chasing top offensive line targets Monroe Freeling, Elijah Paige and Charles Jagusah.
The Irish seem to be in great position for Paige, who was in town for an official visit this past weekend, while Freeling will be back on campus for an official visit this coming weekend.
Notre Dame could lead for Jagusah, who is scheduled to be on campus for an official visit in a couple weeks.
