2024 Charlotte Christian (N.C.) athlete Bryce Young‍ isn’t a stranger to Notre Dame as he’s been to South Bend with his father and soon-to-be NFL Hall of Famer, Bryant Young, a few times.

The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder was back on campus for Notre Dame’s Sunday Night Lights camp over the weekend and left with an offer from the Fighting Irish.

"I was really excited,” Young told ISD. “It's exciting to see what could happen in a few years if I go there.

"I was surprised a little bit. I thought I'd be getting evaluated and going up to get some work in."

Young admits this trip was different as the focus was on him.

"Going up last year for the games and stuff was fun, but it was different going up on a visit and camp,” stated Young. “It was fun and a good experience."

The Charlotte native also got some quality time with Notre Dame’s coaching staff. Head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive line coach Al Washington made sure to show they appreciated Young making the trip to campus.

"I love Coach Freeman and Coach Washington,” said Young. “Coach Washington gave me a lot of advice. He's very personable and a good guy.

"Coach Freeman was very open and nice to me. He was very welcoming to me when we were talking in his office."

And yes, Young felt the energy within the walls of the program.

"I did get that feeling,” Young said of the Notre Dame program having new life. “There was a lot of energy in the office and in the building when I went to the coaches office."

When it comes to a future position, Young’s future is likely on the edge of the defense. Young worked out at defensive end with Washington, which is his favorite position.

"I played a little bit of edge last year, but I mostly played linebacker and some receiver,” explained Young. “Getting on the edge isn't super new to me because I know a little bit of stuff, but doing more drills, I'm getting more familiar with it. I'm learning how to be the best I can at it."

Notre Dame was the first school to offer and Young has seen a quick uptick in his recruitment over the last few days.

"Duke, UNC - we're going up to Duke right now for a camp,” Young said of the programs who have come into the picture. “NC State and UNC have reached out too."

And while his recruitment is just getting off the ground, Young already knows what he wants in a program.

"The coaches and the relationships with the coaches are really important to me,” said Young. “The school is important too. If the coaches were to leave, I'd have to have a good feeling with the school and see myself fitting there."
