Notre Dame early enrollee Jadarian Price was the talk of spring ball, but the freshman running back will have to wait to make his debut in the blue and gold as he suffered a ruptured Achilles this week during workouts according to multiple sources. Pete Sampson of The Athletic was the first to report.

The Texas native is scheduled for surgery on Friday morning.

It’s a hit to the Notre Dame running back room as sophomore Logan Diggs is recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered during the Blue-Gold Game in April.

Price ran nine times for just 12 yards in the spring game, but he showed his full skillset as he caught eight passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Chris Tyree, sophomore Audric Estime and freshman Gi’Bran Payne will make up the running back room heading into fall camp. Tyree has rushed for 718 yards and five touchdowns while adding 32 receptions for 258 yards and two more scores over his first two years at Notre Dame. Estime is a first off the bus guy, but is still a bit of an unknown on the field as he ran seven times for 60 yards in 2021 as a true freshman.

Payne was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and originally signed with Indiana before getting out of his letter of intent and signing with the Irish in the spring.

Irish running backs coach Deland McCullough will have to expedite the development of the room as Notre Dame looks to replace one of its most productive backs in program history as Kyren Williams was drafted by the Los Angles Rams.
