2024 St. Joseph’s Prep (Pa.) cornerback Omillio Agard‍ made his way to Notre Dame for the first time and Friday’s visit couldn’t have gone better.

“It was great,” Agard told ISD. “I’m very happy I got down to see Notre Dame. It’s a very special place and very similar to the high school I come from. I could definitely see it being a great fit.”

The four-star prospect had heard about Notre Dame, but Agard went into the visit with an open mind and was blown away by what he experienced.

“Notre Dame exceeded my expectations,” stated Agard. “I always go into a visit with the mindset that it’s a regular school so I can see what it’s about it. I don’t like to underestimate or overestimate, so I keep a level head going into these visits.”

One of the highlights for Agard was simply getting time with cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens. The two have built a relationship over the phone, but getting face-to-face time was important for the 5-foot-11, 170-pounder.

“He’s been recruiting me with Coach Golden since February,” explained Agard. “It’s been great building a relationship with him and actually seeing him in person was great. He was at my school a couple months ago, but actually seeing him in person in his zone as a coach and a recruiter at his school was great to see and what he was about. He showed me how I’d fit into the defense and the school.”

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman also made his presence felt on the visit. Agard had seen the hype around Freeman over the past few months and after talking with the first-year head coach, the St. Joseph’s Prep star understands why.

“He talked to me and my parents,” Agard said. “It was great. He tried to get me to see what Notre Dame had to offer.

“Coach Freeman is a great guy and a family guy. He has a big family like mine. I actually believe all the hype and I can see he’s a good guy. He’s very straightforward and cares about his guys. You can’t ask for anything more from a coach.”

Agard’s experience inside Notre Dame Stadium was a little different than most recruiting trips as he wasn’t able to even see the field. Notre Dame will host Billy Joel on Saturday night, so the field was taken over by concert equipment, but that didn’t take away from Agard feeling the mystic of the stadium.

“Even though the concert was about to happen, I could still imagine all the fans going wild and I could smell the turf even without seeing it,” Agard explained. “That’s always a great feeling.”

Notre Dame’s commits also made sure Agard felt the love before, during and after his visit. 2024 quarterback commit CJ Carr‍ has been actively recruiting Agard and it’s something the cornerback appreciates.

“I guess you could say CJ Carr is my main recruiter in the 2024 class,” laughed Agard. “I know Jack Larsen committed, but I feel there are more coming. It’s great they are recruiting me hard. Adon Shuler in 2023 is also recruiting me. They’re all recruiting me hard and we could build this thing up if I were to commit there.”

Agard will now look to trim his recruitment down to focus on a select few and it’s safe to say Notre Dame will make the cut.

“I’m definitely going to narrow it down and focus on 10 schools,” said Agard. “By this time next year, I should be committed.”
