Shawn Stiffler is moving closer to rounding out his first staff as Notre Dame’s head baseball coach.

D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers has reported Notre Dame is expected to hire VCU pitching coach Seth Cutler-Voltz and Old Dominion’s Logan Robbins as his final assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

ISD sources have stated the same as both coaches are going through the final stages of the hiring process.

Cutler-Voltz is a name Notre Dame players and fans should be excited about as he comes to South Bend to replace long-time pitching coach Chuck Ristano, who is off to Tallahassee.

VCU hired Cutler-Voltz in November of 2021 and the Rams pitchers saw immediate success. The VCU pitching staff recorded a 3.91 ERA (No. 9 in the country), which was the exact same as Notre Dame’s ERA in 2022. The Rams also struck out 518 batters while walking just 191 and holding a 1.29 WHIP.

Cutler-Voltz played four years at VCU and made 73 appearances, including 47 starts and eight complete games for the Rams. He also ranks No. 2 in VCU history with 338.1 innings pitched. Cutler-Voltz had a career 4.31 ERA, 229 strikeouts and won 18 games.

Following his graduation, Cutler-Voltz was part of VCU’s staff as the volunteer assistant for two seasons before moving to UT Martin in 2015-16. UT Martin struck out a program record 369 batters in 2016. Cutler-Voltz then moved to Wofford where he spent five seasons before heading back to VCU in 2021. In 2021, Wofford struck out 492 batters, which was the third highest mark in program history.

Robbins spent the last seven seasons at Old Dominion and he’s worked in a variety of roles. In 2017, Robbins was promoted to assistant coach and recruiting coordinator after spending two seasons as the volunteer coach.

In 2021, Old Dominion was electric on offense as the Monarchs set program records for single-game and single-season home runs. Old Dominion finished second in Conference USA in 2021 with .301 batting average and second in the nation with 105 home runs.

Old Dominion followed it up in 2022 with another impressive season at the plate as the Monarchs finished 41-17 and hit a program record 128 home runs. The Monarchs hit an impressive 2.21 home runs per game, which finished No. 2 in the country.

Robbins started his coaching career at Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2014 following the end of his baseball career. The Atlanta Braves drafted Robbins out of Western Kentucky in 2011 and he spent two seasons playing professionally.
