Tae Johnson keep coming back.

The 2024 Indiana athlete had already been to Notre Dame multiple times before being offered at Irish Invasion last month. He returned to campus a couple weeks later and was back again on Tuesday for the BBQ.

“It was definitely fun,” the Fort Wayne native told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a nice day for sure.

“This time, it was just more bonding with the coaches, plus the photoshoot and all of that stuff. Really, just the same stuff, but just more time with the coaches I would say.”

In addition to Notre Dame, Johnson has offers from schools like Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas and Washington among others. The Irish offered the 6-foot-3, 170-pounder as a safety while many of his other offers have been to play receiver.

On Tuesday, Johnson spent time with safeties coach Chris O’Leary, defensive coordinator Al Golden and receivers coach Chansi Stuckey.

O’Leary was selling Johnson on a bright future playing defense in South Bend.

“Really just about the safeties that have played there, how good the safeties are really and what I could do at the next level,” Johnson said of O’Leary’s message. “Really what he would want my vision to be at Notre Dame.”

Golden certainly made an impression.

“Coach Golden is a legend for sure,” said Johnson. “A lot of people know his background. He did a lot. He coached a lot. He was at the Super Bowl with the Bengals. I definitely think good of Coach. He's a good guy, nice guy for sure.

“All of the coaches there are definitely good. Coach takes pride in them, so they're the best in the country for real.”

It’s not yet clear how important position will be for Johnson, who described Notre Dame as a “dream school” when he was offered.

“They just want me to keep them updated with how other schools recruit me; if they recruit me at receiver or not,” he said.

Johnson will be at Penn State on Friday and then Michigan on Sunday.

He expects to return to South Bend for a game in the fall.
