2023 Lakota West (Ohio) athlete Benjamin Minich‍ returned to Notre Dame on Wednesday and once again left impressed by what the university offered.

The ISD four-star prospect camped at Notre Dame in June and received an offer from the Fighting Irish in July, so this visit was about learning about the program and how he fit into it.

“It was good,” Minich told ISD. “I spoke to all the coaches and really got an in-depth look at everything. It was very informative and a great visit.”

During the camp in June, Minich was able to see the coaching styles of Chris O’Leary and the Notre Dame staff. On Wednesday, the Ohio native got to see how they go about day-to-day life and a feel for their personalities away from the field.

“I definitely seemed like a priority for them and that’s always good in recruiting,” explained Minich. “I was able to get to know them a little bit better. I saw who I would be around if I did commit to Notre Dame.

“It’s just good to get a better sense of everything.”

O’Leary led a key meeting as the two were able to go over film during the visit. Minich was able to see how the Irish planned to use him and where he fit into the defensive scheme.

“We got to break down some film,” said Minich. “He showed me where he could see me fitting in at safety, nickel and dime. They see me as a versatile player, so that’s good for me.”

And being such a versatile athlete, Minich was interested to learn the difference in how Notre Dame’s defense works compared to other schools. The basic principles of defense are the same, but he enjoyed hearing the little nuances in the Irish defense.

“It’s similar, but they run different defenses at other schools,” Minich stated. “For the most part, safety, field safety or developing into the boundary is the plan.”

Another highlight of this trip was seeing more of the campus. Minich was able to see academic facilities and the hot spots on campus, which left a positive impression.

“I really wasn’t expecting how nice the place is,” stated Minich. “Camps is just beautiful. There are a lot of different monuments and stuff there. The buildings and the inside are nice and renovated. The whole place is really sweet.”

Minich had spoken about visiting Oklahoma before the month ends and while there is not a date set, he didn’t eliminate it.

“It’s still a possibility,” Minich said. “It’s still on the table, but we’ll see where it goes.”

And as for a decision, Minich remains on track to make a decision before his season starts.

“It’ll be most likely before the season,” said Minich. “So it’ll be before school starts so I can get it out of the way.”

Offers: Akron, Army, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Charlotte, Cincinnati, UConn, Duke, Harvard, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Navy, Ohio, Oklahoma, Princeton, Stanford, Toledo, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Yale.
