2024 South Carolina CB Commit Karson Hobbs Excited For Notre Dame Trip

Notre Dame Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden invited Karson Hobbs‍ to the Marshall game last week, but the 2024 Ohio cornerback wasn’t able to make it.

“We were going up against the #11 team in the country,” Hobbs explained. “We went down there, played them, beat them.”

After defeating Maryland power Good Counsel last week, Hobbs and his Archbishop Moeller squad face St. Xavier on Friday this week, freeing him up to make it to South Bend for Saturday’s game against Cal.

Hobbs, who committed to South Carolina back in July, is fired up for the visit.

“I've been a diehard Notre Dame fan since I was a kid,” he said. “I don't know how many Notre Dame games I've been to. Ever since I was a kid, I've always just dreamed of playing at Notre Dame.

“In our basement, we have a bunch of pictures from all the national championships they won and all the great players that came out of there. We've got a Tyler Eifert jersey framed on our wall downstairs. We love the tradition. We've always loved it.

Hobbs, who also has offers from schools like Kentucky, West Virginia, Marshall and Akron, understands visiting as a recruit will be “totally different.”

“Something I would have never really imagined,” he said. “It's been about six years since I've been down there, so it's different. Watching this team every single Saturday, seeing what they producing, how far they go. It's kind of one of your dreams coming true just getting to go as a recruit. This is really what I wanted.

“I really just want to see the atmosphere and the love, just all the fans. I would just like to see what gameday feels like in there. I'm really excited. It's been a while since I've been to the facilities too, so I want to get to see it all.”

It’s early, but Hobbs isn’t hiding the fact that an offer from the Irish would be a big one.

“That would be huge,” he said. “That would be huge. Knowing what's already been going on with my recruitment, that would be huge. It would play a big role on me and put me in a spot where I wouldn't completely close off all my options yet.”

The 6-foot-1, 183-pounder always planned to make a relatively early decision, which is one reason he chose the Gamecocks.

“I felt like I knew I would receive more offers, but Coach (Torrian) Gray, the defensive back coach there, I believe he's the best in the country,” said Hobbs. “For the past couple years, South Carolina's had the highest success in pass defense in the SEC. They've been #1, #2 and #1.

“With his staff and Coach Shane Beamer, they're just great people. They drag you into people you want to play for. I feel like that was what hooked me on with them.

In addition to the offers he has, Hobbs is also receiving interest from schools like Auburn, Tennessee, Illinois and Coastal Carolina.

“I've got to make it to a Tennessee game, an Auburn game,” he said. “Those two for sure. UK, I still talk to them every day. I've still got more schools coming in.”

He knows what he’s looking for in a college.

“When Signing Day comes, my decision is going to be based on the school that I feel like I have the best chance, not only to go to the next level, which is playing Division-I football at a big-time school, but the next level after that, which could set me up, not only just to possibly play at my dream, which is the NFL, but set me up for a life and a career where I can be successful.”
