Makhi Smith‍ made the trip up to South Bend from Kentucky for this past Saturday’s game at Notre Dame and the 2025 wide receiver and the Irish are glad he did.

“It was great,” the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder told Irish Sports Daily. “It was an amazing experience. I loved the campus. I loved the gameday atmosphere. I just loved it all around. It was good.

“I started off by going to the practice facility, looked around that a little bit. We got to eat. I got to meet a whole bunch of coaches; the wide receiver coach, head coach. I got to go on the game field while they were warming up game. I got to watch them. I was on the field and stuff. Just doing that was great.”

In addition to Chansi Stuckey and Marcus Freeman, the Woodford County Football standout met several recruiting staffers.

“One of the recruiting coordinators told me he likes the dedication of how far it was to come there, five hours,” said Smith. “He said he knows I'm young. He said he knows I can improve as a deep threat, he said just the dedication that he likes to see that I came five hours just to come visit.”

All of the people Smith met were impressive.

“It was great,” he said. “I liked them. It was nice. I felt like it'd be home if I came there.”

Smith has an early offer from Kentucky and plans to be at Louisville for its game this weekend and potentially Florida in the future.

He plans to continue staying in contact with Notre Dame.

“Since I'm still young, probably just get on another visit in a couple months or probably next year just to see what it's like.”
