2024 OF Brendan Tunink Commits to Notre Dame
Illinois is an important state for Notre Dame baseball recruiting and the Irish landed a big commitment on Monday as 2024 Newman Central Catholic (Ill.) outfielder Brendan Tunink went public with his commitment.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder had an impressive summer and is considered one of the top left-handed hitters in the state.
Tunink was dominant from the plate as a sophomore as he hit .529 with 37 hits, 28 runs scored, 26 RBI, 15 doubles, two triples and four home runs in just 82 plate appearances. On the mound, the Illinois native went 3-0 in 43.2 innings pitched, 1.12 ERA and 55 strikeouts.
In June, Tunink recorded an exit velocity of 101.9 and a 6.87 60-yard dash.
Perhaps the most important part of Tunink’s commitment is the fact it gives head coach Steve Stiffler another left-handed bat in the lineup. Notre Dame was right-handed dominant under Link Jarrett and Tunink joins Bino Watters (OF/1B) as the second lefty in the 2024 class. It’s also worth noting infielder commit RJ Cromartie is a switch hitter, so the new Irish staff is working on adding a presence to both sides of the plate through recruiting.
Tunink is commitment No. 8 for Notre Dame and there could be more good news coming soon as the Irish staff hosted several top targets in September.
