Notre Dame hasn’t been recruiting Brandyn Hillman‍ very long; only a couple of weeks really.

But the Irish have managed to get plenty done in a short period of time, not the least of which is showing the 2023 Virginia athlete their level of interest.

“I communicate with Notre Dame every day,” Hillman told Irish Sports Daily.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder saw his recruitment explode during a 48-hour period last week, when he landed offers from the Irish along with schools like Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Boston College, Kentucky, Tennessee and Vanderbilt among others.

But the Irish staying in regular contact helped them secure an official visit from the Churchland High School prospect.

“The communication plays a big part, the way they interact with my mom, my family, making sure everybody's good, checking on my day,” Hillman said of why he chose to lock in an official to South Bend.

“It's just the effort that they're showing.”

Hillman will travel to Notre Dame for the Irish’s home game against Stanford on Oct. 15th and is excited to get a feel for the University and program.

“The atmosphere,” he said of what he’s looking forward to seeing. “How the school really is, how the coaching staff is in person, just check out campus, check a couple academic places out and see how it is in general.”

Hillman visited North Carolina last weekend and landed an offer from the Tar Heels a couple days later.

But he says he has “no clue” where or if he’d take any other visits beyond Notre Dame.

According to Hillman’s coach, Dontrell Leonard, the flood of offers was a result of Hillman deciding he was open to playing positions outside of quarterback.

“I believe that I'm one of the best athletes in the state, so I knew stepping out of the quarterback position wasn't going to be a struggle,” said Hillman, who played defense at Churchland for the first time this fall.

“Now, it's just to the point of me taking it to the next level.”

Notre Dame could see him playing a number of spots on the next level, including running back, receiver, wildcat quarterback or defensive back. He’s truly being recruited as an athlete.

And for his part, Hillman says he has no preference.
