Last week’s showcase game featured a 2023 Notre Dame commit and a potential 2023 Irish quarterback target and it was a shootout.

In the end, Maize High School edged Kansas rival Derby High School 52-51.

Led by Irish running back commit Dylan Edwards‍, who finished with 192 total yards and a pair of touchdowns, Derby had a 20-point lead midway through the first half.

But 2023 Kansas State quarterback commit Avery Johnson‍ finished with 531 total yards – 379 passing and 152 rushing – and seven total touchdowns to lead Maize back to victory.

After being offered a scholarship offer from the Irish over a year ago, Johnson committed to Kansas State over the summer, but Notre Dame has been in consistent contact over the past month or so.

There’s definitely interest from both sides, but it remains to be seen exactly how much.

LIMAR RETURNS IN MAJOR WAY: A couple weeks after having to leave Lake Stevens’ game at halftime with an injury, 2023 Notre Dame running back commit Jayden Limar‍ was back on the field Friday night and proving why he’s one of the nation’s best.

Limar finished with 180 rushing yards and five touchdowns, including an 81-yarder in the fourth.

"That one was a jaw-dropper," Lake Stevens head coach Tom Tri said afterward. "That’s the longest run of his career, and that’s the fastest I’ve seen him run. He’s had some pretty amazing runs, so that should tell you. That was one of most spectacular runs I’ve seen in his four years here.”

GREATHOUSE CONTINUES TO LEAVE A LEGACY: Irish wide receiver commit Jaden Greathouse‍ continues to etch his name in the history books at one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the country.

Greathouse caught five passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns during Austin Westlake’s 66-17 win over Anderson. In the process, Greathouse made his 200th career reception.

The next milestone up for Greathouse is 50 career touchdowns. He heads into this week’s game at Dripping Springs with 49 for his career.

BELL FLASHES AGAIN: Irish cornerback commit Micah Bell‍ continues to flash his world-class speed.

On Friday, Bell rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries to lead Kinkaid to a 49-14 victory over St. Mark’s.

BOWEN BLOWS UP AGAIN: Notre Dame linebacker commit Drayk Bowen‍ scored a pair of touchdowns and ran for 45 yards on eight carries while pulling in a pair of passes, including a 70-yard touchdown to lead Andrean to a 33-0 win over Kankakee Valley on Friday night.

JAMES SHINES IN LOSS: Notre Dame receiver commit Braylon James‍ caught seven passes for 90 yards and a score, but his Stony Point squad fell 44-20 to Cedar Ridge.

FLANAGAN PUTS UP NUMBERS IN LOSS: Irish tight end Cooper Flanagan‍ has been making quite an impact playing defensive end for De La Salle this fall, but on Friday, he showed why he’ll be an offensive player at the next level.

Flanagan caught six passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, but De La Salle suffered its third loss of the season, 45-35 to St. Mary’s.

CAM CONTINUES TO PERFORM: Cam Williams‍ continues to have a monster season.

On Friday, the 2024 Notre Dame wide receiver commit caught three passes for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also picked off two passes and brought both back to the house for two more scores as Glenbard South beat West Chicago 41-8.
