The Notre Dame defense gave up 38 points and 7.1 yards per play. They also gave up over 200 yards rushing on the ground. As crazy as it might sound after seeing those numbers, I don’t think the staff came in with a bad plan.

They had to take their chances with even numbers in the box against the run because they couldn’t afford to have too many one on ones in the secondary with two of their top three corners out.
