Transfer WR Target Dante Cephas Talks Notre Dame Offer

It was quite the Monday for Dante Cephas.

On Sunday, the Kent State star wide receiver announced he would be entering the transfer portal.

A day later, the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder picked up scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Kansas.

Even with a flood of attention in a single day, it’s clear the Irish made an impression on Cephas, who has caught a combine 130 passes for 1,984 yards and 12 touchdowns over his last two seasons with the Golden Flashes.

“I talked to a few of them before they offered me over the phone,” he said of the Notre Dame coaches. “They want to get me down there for an official visit real soon.”

In fact, Cephas could be in South Bend this coming weekend.

“I still have to talk to my parents about this week, but I’m definitely planning on doing it eventually,” he said.

Cephas sees a potential fit with the Irish.

“The type of offense they run and the resources they’ve got there,” he said. “I think they’d be good resources for me to use.”

Meanwhile, Notre Dame is selling the opportunity to play on what playing for a major brand on a major stage could provide him next season and beyond.

“They feel they could put me in the right position to get the ball and they believe the program is a winning program, that they’ll be fighting for a championship next season and they want me to be a part of it,” said Cephas.

Whenever he gets to South Bend, he’ll be looking to learn more on and off the field.

“How the program works, what a day of practice is like,” he said. “I also want to learn how the academic stuff plays out in this situation. When you transfer, sometimes the credits don’t transfer over. I want to see how that plays out.”

Penn State is another school Cephas said he is “likely” to visit.

He hopes to have a decision in “about two weeks.”
