Adon Shuler‍ has been committed to Notre Dame for 16 months now, the recruiting process is coming to an end and the 2023 New Jersey safety has begun hosting the Irish coaches for in-home visits.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden and safeties coach Chris O’Leary were in New Jersey visiting with the Irvington High School star.

“It was a great experience for me and my family,” Shuler said. “I always got to see them in South Bend. For them to see how I live and the scenery that I grew up in is really cool and it’s definitely a great experience.”

After winning a state championship a year ago, Irvington came up short this fall.

“We were talking about high school and how my season ended; just keep a great head, I had a great high school career and just get ready for the next level,” Shuler said of his discussions with O’Leary and Golden.

“Mainly just, ‘Stay ready,’ ‘Come in ready to compete,’ and stuff like that.”

O’Leary impressed Shuler from the very start of the process with his energy and the assistant brought the same energy on Tuesday.

“Of course,” Shuler laughed.

Shuler has had the chance to get to know Golden better over the past several months.

“Coach Golden is very relatable for me because he’s from New Jersey,” said Shuler. “We have a lot of stuff in common. Each time I get to speak with him, we get to understand each other; knowing the same food spots, knowing what high schools are playing and where. That’s a great thing. Coach Golden is a very easy person for me to talk to.

“From a football aspect, I can tell he knows a lot about the game and I can learn a lot from him.”

Irish head coach Marcus Freeman is expected to make his in-home visit with Shuler and his family next week.

“Coach Freeman is definitely a family person,” said Shuler. “My parents can call him and talk to him about anything.”

Shuler is excited to officially sign with the Irish in a couple weeks.

“This has been a very long recruiting process,” said Shuler, noting all of the coaching upheaval at different schools across the country.

“It feels real good to know I’ve got my home and I’m not going to be waiting around to see who goes where and stuff like that. That’s the biggest thing, just being blessed to be in the position I’m in.”
