2027 DT Jamar Thompson Talks Pot of Gold Day Offer From Notre Dame
Jamar Thompson didn’t know what to say when the 2027 Florida defensive tackle learned of his offer from Notre Dame during the Irish’s Pot of Gold push on St. Patrick’s Day.
“I was at a loss for words,” Thompson told Irish Sports Daily. “It's an amazing offer, an amazing school and program. That's a good opportunity for me.”
Thompson’s offer sheet already included schools like Auburn, Baylor, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Penn State, South Florida, Syracuse and West Virginia among others.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder has an appreciation for Notre Dame.
“I know that's a good program and they produce a lot of good players out there,” he said.
Irish defensive line coach Al Washington was the one who informed him of the offer.
“He was telling me that he liked me,” Thompson said of Washington. “I'm a very good kid. I'm special, and they want to get me out there to a practice to watch them.”
That’s something the West Boca Raton High School star hopes to do.
“I'm going to try to get up there to catch a spring practice,” he said.
“Just check out the atmosphere, see how everything is up there, see the potential up there and everything.”
Washington made a strong initial impression on Thompson.
“He's a very good guy; well-spoken and well spoken of by people,” Thompson said. “A very good guy.”
Thompson said he’s also looking into visiting Syracuse soon.
His recruitment still has a long way to go, but he’s already identified one crucial factor in his ultimate decision.
“Playing early.”
