Notre Dame Commit Aneyas Williams Makes Father Proud

James Branch is quite proud of his son.

Not just because Aneyas Williams‍ announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Friday evening, but because of the way the 2024 Missouri running back conducted himself throughout the process.

“I couldn't be more proud of him,” Branch told Irish Sports Daily. “He's handled it way better than I ever could have.”

Williams saw his profile explode over the summer, going from a prospect with a couple regional offers to a top national target in a matter of weeks.

But by all accounts, he didn’t let that change him.

“Keeping the level head that he has, I couldn't have done it,” his father acknowledged.

Even at 9 years old, Williams was a beast on the field.

Branch is also proud of the decision Williams made, choosing Notre Dame over schools like Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon and Tennessee among others.

“I think he'll be getting the best of all the things that I want for him,” said Branch. “I think it's the best of all the things that he needs as far as not only an education, but a top-notch football program and probably the top-notch coaches.”

“That's the biggest thing I would say, the impact that the coaches have made on.”

Williams previously talked about wanting to wait until he could take official visits before making a decision. He told ISD earlier that after a pair of visits to South Bend he had seen all he needed in order to make a choice.

His father expanded on those reasons.

“He's got a really important year ahead of him,” Branch said. “I think next year is probably going to be the best football team as far as high school level that he's going to have. It's his senior class and I think that's important to him.

“I think he wants to get some stuff out of the way, stop worrying about what coach thinks what of him and who thinks he can play where and just play the game.”
