2024 TE Carter Nelson Enjoys Keeping In Touch With Notre Dame

December 19, 2022

Even though their initial plans to see each other were scrapped, it’s becoming obvious Carter Nelson‍ and Notre Dame will be seeing plenty of each other over the next several months.

The 2024 Nebraska tight end had to cancel his first trip to South Bend earlier in the fall, but quickly rescheduled for the Irish’s home finale against Boston College a few weeks later.

In between, Notre Dame tight ends Gerad Parker extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder.

And earlier this month, Parker made his way to Ainsworth High School to check in on Nelson.

“It was definitely awesome,” Nelson said of having Parker swing by his school. “It shows how much they are interested in me. I really appreciate them going out of the way to make that happen.”

NCAA rules limit the amount of in-person contact college coaches can have with underclassmen prospects, but Parker and Nelson have had plenty of conversations over the phone and in South Bend.

“He thinks that we could do great things together at Notre Dame and he just pretty much preaches about how he would love to coach me and what we could get accomplished,” he said.

Nelson, who also has offers from schools like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Penn State, Duke and Baylor among others, sees what Parker sees.

“Yeah, for sure,” Nelson added. “He's definitely had great success.”

His early impressions of Parker are overwhelmingly positive.

“So far, everything that I know about him, I definitely like him,” Nelson said. “I'm just looking forward to continuing to learn more about him and his coaching ways and things like that.”

Nelson intends to return to Notre Dame, but doesn’t have any dates set yet.

“Right now, it's basketball season for me, so it probably won't be until either spring or summer when I get back out there again.”
