2024 DE Loghan Thomas "Shocked" By Notre Dame Offer

Nobody turned more heads at the National Combine last Friday than Loghan Thomas‍ and word of the 2023 Texas defensive end’s performance made its way from San Antonio to South Bend quickly.

On Tuesday, the Irish extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder.

“They just said I was what they were looking for in an edge rusher and that my academics were also good,” the Paetow High School standout said. “They feel like if we were to work together, we could build something special.”

Thomas came into the Combine with offers from schools like Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, SMU, North Texas and Arizona.

It’s no surprise that he’s seeing his recruitment go to a new level, but the Irish offer still caught him off guard.

“If we’re being honest, I was in shock,” Thomas told Irish Sports Daily. “I was in shock. I always thought highly of Notre Dame as a school. Football aside, I always thought Notre Dame was a great school. It’s truly a blessing to have the opportunity to go play there.”

Irish defensive line coach Al Washington has already made positive impressions on Thomas over the phone.

“I just felt he was a really cool guy, someone I felt a bond with over the phone and someone I could definitely see myself working with in the future,” he said of Washington.

Thomas doesn’t know exactly when yet, but he expects to get to South Bend soon.

“Definitely go up there, take a visit and see how the campus looks,” he said. “I already know it’s beautiful, I’ve seen the pictures online, just get a feel for it in person.”

Thomas has seen his recruitment pick up in a hurry since being named MVP of the Combine on Friday.

“It’s been pretty busy,” he said. “I picked up an offer from U of H and North Texas as well. I’ve been talking back and forth with a couple other coaches.”

Thomas has a good idea of what he’s looking for in a college.

“Somewhere I can get my education because I’m always thinking life after football. Somewhere I can rush the quarterback and play a true edge and just somewhere that feels like home.”
