2024 Charlotte Christian (N.C.) defensive end Bryce Young‍ made the trip to Notre Dame last weekend and it couldn’t have gone much better for the 6-foot-5, 242-pounder.

Young was able to get time with the coaching staff, but also Notre Dame’s 2024 commits during the visit.

“It was great,” Young told ISD. “I loved seeing the recruits in my class and I had a great time with him. I had great conversations with Coach (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Al) Golden and Coach (Al) Washington.”

The three-star prospect spent most of the day with Washington as the two hit the film room as Young learned the plan for how he would be used in South Bend.

“He saw me as a strongside defensive end playing the six technique,” explained Young. “It was cool because he went through how their defense works and walked me through they see me fitting into the defense. It was a great time seeing how he coaches and learning from him.”

Washington has had the unique opportunity to also coach Young as the Charlotte native camped at Notre Dame over the summer. It’s provided great inside for both sides and Young has been super impressed with how Washington goes about his business.

“He brings the energy every time I’m with him,” Young stated. “Coach Washington really makes you work for it, which I love.”

Freeman also made plenty of time for Young during the visit and his message was simple.

“He wanted to make sure I knew Notre Dame is the right place for me,” said Young. “He explained how Notre Dame is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

And yes, Freeman made it very clear the staff wants Young because of what he can bring to the Notre Dame program and not because he’s the son of an Irish legend and one of the best defensive linemen to ever play the game.

“Coach Freeman definitely emphasized that I’m the one they want,” Young stated. “I really appreciate that.”

As for his time with Notre Dame’s commits, Young saw a fit and enjoyed getting a feel for the class.

“I had some great conversations with them,” stated Young. “I have a lot in common with them and we had a great time at the hockey game. We just really bonded.”

Young will now look to make a few more visits in the coming weeks as he looks to set a commitment date in the future.

“I have Duke, Tennessee and Alabama coming up,” said Young. “I’m just really trying to find clarity and see if there is a school I do like. By visiting all these schools, I’ll know for sure.

“I’m still looking forward to setting a commitment date, but definitely in the future a date will be coming.”
