Denson Makes Offer to Schwartz a Unique One

On Tuesday evening, 2018 American Heritage (Fla.) wide receiver Anthony Schwartz had offers from programs likes Auburn, Florida, Miami, Mississippi State, Oregon, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The four-star prospect was on the phone with area recruiter Autry Denson when the running backs coach asked to speak with his mother.

“Coach Denson was on the phone and he wanted to talk to my mom,” Schwartz told Irish Sports Daily. “He actually told my mom about the offer before he told me. My mom didn’t really tell me anything. I think she wanted to keep it a secret until he told me.

“She gave me back the phone and Coach Denson told me I had a $250,000 blank check and I could take it if I wanted the opportunity. That was his way of offering me. It was a pretty awesome moment.”

The 6-foot, 175-pounder hadn’t quite been offered like that before and it only added to the excitement of picking up another offer from a school Schwartz was familiar with.

“It’s great to have an offer from Notre Dame,” he explained. “It means they are interested in me and I know it’s a great school. I know they are very good in athletics and academics. I know I could exceed there in many areas.”

Schwartz is one of the nation’s fastest players regardless of class as his 10.28 100m time last year is a pretty good statement. The Florida native ran a 10.54 in the 100m last weekend so there is definitely a question of which sport he will pursue in college.

“I have played football since I was five,” stated Schwartz. “I think I am going to run track and play football in college. At the end of college, I will probably stick to whatever I think will help me more.”

It’s not surprising Schwartz feels his speed is the best part of his game but he is working on maximizing his game by taking advantage of his greatest asset.

“I feel like my speed is the main part of my game,” said Schwartz. “I am working on my route running so I can make cuts faster. I am also working on being able to cut at full speed.”

When it comes to recruiting, Schwartz is taking his time with the process and is working on setting up his spring and summer visit schedule.

“I am planning my spring visits to local schools like Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Florida State,” explained Schwartz. “During the summer, I will probably start going further away from Florida for visits. That’s when I will try to get to Notre Dame.”

On his visits, the speedster will look at a variety of things and the track program is going to be one of them. However, it’s clear Schwartz is looking to be comfortable on and off the field.

“I am looking to build a relationship with the coaching staff,” he stated. “I want to see the facilities and how the players interact with different sports and the students. I want to see how the school helps student-athletes with their academics too.

Schwartz also isn’t afraid to leave the state of Florida if the fit is right.

“Distance isn’t going to be a factor for me,” Schwartz said. “I am definitely open to whatever school fits me the best.”
