Notre Dame 2023 NFL Pro Day Measurements, Test Results & Observations
Notre Dame hosted its Pro Day for 2023 NFL Draft hopefuls on Friday.
With dozens of scouts in attendance, 14 players participated, including former Fighting Irish running back Jafar Armstrong and Indiana State wide receiver Dante Hendrix, the program’s all-time receiving yards leader.

Observations
- Eight former Notre Dame players ran the 40-yard dash and none set the world on fire. Cornerback TaRiq Bracy led the pack by running a 4.54-second 40-yard dash, which would’ve tied him for 23rd at the NFL Combine.
That’s slower than expected but a few past Irish players expressed their displeasure with running the 40-yard dash on the turf at the Irish Athletic Complex.
It’s worth noting that Crawford still ran a 4.47 at his Pro Day in 2021, an excellent time for someone that had endured two torn ACLs and a ruptured Achilles. Cornerback Nick McCloud also ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash that day, so the turf likely wasn’t slowing them down too much.
Bracy still impressed with a 38 ½ inch vertical jump, which shows how explosive of an athlete he is.
- Wide receiver Avery Davis just trailed Bracy in the 40-yard dash with a 4.56. That’s a solid time for Davis who tore his ACL in August. He’s still just getting back to football drills, so he didn’t run routes on Friday.
- Safety Brandon Joseph slightly improved upon his NFL Combine performance with a 4.57-second 40-yard dash. Unfortunately, such a small jump won’t likely change his draft projection. Right now, he’s expected to be an undrafted free agent.
- Justin Ademilola measured at 6-1 ⅓, which makes him rather short for an NFL outside linebacker. His 4.95-second 40-yard is also a disappointment, but he says that differs from the time NFL Scouts shared with him.
“I felt like I did pretty well today,” Justin Ademilola said. “I know the scout got me down as a 4.7. That’s what I was training at.”
- Jafar Armstrong completed his collegiate career last fall as a wide receiver for the FCS program Western Illinois, catching 28 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He weighed in at 224 pounds but still ran slower than expected. I’m a bit surprised he didn’t slim down, at least for testing purposes.
- Defensive tackle Chris Smith benched 225 lbs 37 times on Friday, which would’ve ranked second at the 2023 NFL Combine behind USC OL Andrew Vorhees. It’s three more reps than Michigan defensive tackle Mazi Smith put up, which led all defensive prospects.
- Bo Bauer wasn’t ready to run, but his 30 bench reps stood out. That would’ve led all linebackers at last month’s NFL Combine.
- Isaiah Foskey went through defensive line drills near the end of Pro Day but he chose not to participate in the testing portion. Given his performance at the NFL Combine, he certainly didn’t need to.
