BREAKING | 2024 DE Bryce Young Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame has landed a commitment that’s been a long time coming.

2024 Charlotte Christian (N.C.) defensive end Bryce Young‍ has committed to Notre Dame after the Irish were the first school to offer the 6-foot-5, 242-pounder following his camp performance last June. 

Young started his career on offense, but worked on the edge during Notre Dame’s camp and his game has flourished leading to offers from BYU, California, Charlotte, UConn, Duke, Elon, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, UAB, USC and Virginia. 

The Charlotte native returned to Notre Dame in the fall and then in January for Junior Day, which proved to be an important visit as defensive line coach Al Washington was able to explain exactly where he fit into the Irish defense. 

“He saw me as a strongside defensive end playing the six technique,” explained Young in January. “It was cool because he went through how their defense works and walked me through they see me fitting into the defense. It was a great time seeing how he coaches and learning from him.” 

After getting coached at camp and then spending time with Washington during his visits, Young has come to appreciate the coaching style of his future position coach.

“He brings the energy every time I’m with him,” Young stated. “Coach Washington really makes you work for it, which I love.” 

As for being a Notre Dame legacy and the son of an NFL Hall of Famer, Young appreciated the way the staff handled his recruitment and it started with head coach Marcus Freeman. 

“Coach Freeman definitely emphasized that I’m the one they want,” Young said. “I really appreciate that.” 

Young joins defensive end Cole Mullins‍ and defensive tackle Owen Wafle‍ in Notre Dame’s 2024 defensive line haul.
