2025 K Carson Hilbert Enjoys Notre Dame Return
Carson Hilbert has been to South Bend a few times now.
“I just love Notre Dame,” the 2025 Kentucky told Irish Sports Daily following his last visit this past weekend.
“It's been an amazing trip every time I've been up there.”
The Trinity High School standout said the highlight of his most recent visit was spending time with new Irish special teams coach Marty Biagi.
“The fact that he is a former kicker,” Hilbert noted. “There's a lot of colleges that don't have coaches who don't necessarily know the kicking game the way that he does. So, that was fantastic.
“And then also seeing (special teams analyst Jesse) Schmitt again. He's also from Louisville, so it's always good to see a Kentucky connection along with Coach Biagi as well.”
Hilbert was able to take in the Irish’s scrimmage on Saturday.
“They really loved being on the field and competing and you can see that through Coach (Marcus) Freeman,” he said. “I just think the environment was fantastic, being up there and seeing the competition level from every level of the team.”
It’s still early in Hilbert’s recruiting process and Biagi told him there will be opportunities to build a relationship as time goes on. Hilbert’s next step will likely be to camp at Notre Dame again.
Hilbert has already checked out several other schools as well.
“I've been to Michigan twice,” he said. “I live in Louisville, so I've been to Louisville a bunch. I've made visits to Kentucky, Florida State, Alabama and Western Kentucky.”
He’s planning to visit Florida this summer.
Hilbert has an idea of what he’s looking for in a college.
“Obviously, academics are important and Notre Dame is in a class by itself, so that's amazing,” he said. “But being a football player, you want to go to a culture that is very good and Coach Freeman has built that there.
“Obviously, being a kicker, there's a lot of schools that might not necessarily be a good fit for a kicker.”
As a former kicker, Biagi is the kind of coach Hilbert would trust to put his specialists in positions to perform at their peaks.
