Blue-Gold Weekend got started with a bang from a recruiting standpoint on Friday night, when 2025 Florida defensive lineman Davion Dixon‍ announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder from Miami chose the Irish over offers from schools like Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Penn State, Michigan State and Nebraska among several others.

The Belen Jesuit Prep standout landed his offer from the Irish back in February and called it a “dream” offer.

“It's the history and the coaching there is just amazing,” Dixon told Irish Sports Daily at the time.

“Growing up, I used to watch ‘Rudy.’ It used to be one of the best movies for me when I was a kid. We're always talking about Notre Dame.”

Obviously, he wasn’t kidding.

He gives the Irish their first commitment in the Class of 2025.

Dixon is in town for Saturday’s spring game, a visit he’s been looking forward to for months.

“Notre Dame is historical,” he told ISD. “l want to get a connection with the coaches and get established there.”

Irish defensive line coach Al Washington clearly played a major role in this recruitment, with his coaching acumen, personality and persistence. Dixon said he and Washington have been having conversations on the phone at least once a week leading up to the visit.

“We talk on the phone for like 10, 15 minutes. Asking how my week has been and what's coming up and all that. But we are making a great connection.”
