Top 2024 LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Recaps Visit, Sets Notre Dame Official Visit
2024 St. John Bosco (Calif.) linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa made the trip to Notre Dame a year ago for the Blue-Gold Game and returned on Saturday to get his second look at the Irish program.
The trip this weekend was different as the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder is focused on narrowing his recruitment down to a top group and Notre Dame made sure to leave an impression.
“It was great,” Viliamu-Asa told ISD. “I got to spend a lot of time with the staff and get to know the players. It was great to get back out here a second time. It was important for me and my family to come back and see it.”
Now, Notre Dame clearly left a positive impression on Viliamu-Asa last year, but it wasn’t as in-depth as what he experienced this weekend. Viliamu-Asa wanted to get learn more about Notre Dame and simply build relationships as the Irish have become a major contender for one of the nation’s best.
“It was really important, especially now when I’m trying to narrow down schools,” said Viliamu-Asa. “It was important to see and get to know the coaching staff. I wanted to see what type of coaches they are and how they get the most of their players.
“I wanted to spend time with the players and get to know how it really is because if anyone would know, it would be them. I was able to see some of the guys I know and getting their perspective on things was important to me.”
Viliamu-Asa met with basically Notre Dame’s defensive staff over the weekend as head coach Marcus Freeman and company made sure to educate the St. John Bosco star on everything the university had to offer on and off the field.
“A big emphasis was on everything they have to offer at Notre Dame,” explained Viliamu-Asa. Aside from football, they have academic opportunities and life opportunities that you can do when you go there. It’s a four-year decision for the rest of your life.
“To get to know me and my mom and spend time with us - for us to get a perspective of who they are and how they are as coaches and how it is every day there was important.”
Notre Dame also made it very clear how and where they see Viliamu-Asa fitting into the defense as he has a skill set to help in various roles.
“They have an NFl-style defense, so their defense is based on the players skill and strengths. The way they see me fitting in is similar to other colleges. They see me fitting in as a money backer, which means I’m able to do more than one thing.
“I can help in the run, play the pass in coverage and pass rush. They really want to use my versatility to be able to put me in a position to impact the game in multiple ways.”
The Irish have hosted several West Coast prospects in recent weeks, including 2024 Chaminade (Calif.) safety Marquis Gallegos earlier this month. Viliamu-Asa and Gallegos have been friends dating back years and the two have spoken about Notre Dame in recent weeks.
“I talked to Quis,” stated Viliamu-Asa. “The possibility to come from the West Coast together would be a comfortable fit knowing other guys from the West Coast over there. I think it’s great.”
Viliamu-Asa has been on several unofficial visits over the last year and now he’ll start to narrow recruitment down to his top school in the near future.
“I set an official visit to Notre Dame for June 16th,” stated Viliamu-Asa. “The next step for me is knowing my top schools. I actually will probably release them this week.”
As for a decision, the four-star prospect plans to have one made shortly after he wraps up his final round of visits.
“After my official visits,” said Viliamu-Asa. “If not June, then July, but definitely before my fall season.”
