2024 WR Micah Gilbert Discusses Notre Dame Commitment

Last month’s visit to Notre Dame sealed the deal for Micah Gilbert‍.

The 2024 North Carolina wide receiver announced his commitment to the Irish on Tuesday, pointing to the atmosphere in South Bend, head coach Marcus Freeman’s vision and Gilbert’s connection with receivers coach Chansi Stuckey.

"Coach Freeman, having conversations with him, he really sold the deal with me," said Gilbert. "I love that they play at a high level, they're a national championship team and also just a great academic, great educational school."

Freeman emphasized how Notre Dame could set Gilbert up for life after football, which was a huge selling point for him.

"He just talked about, yes, they're going to compete at a high level,” Gilbert said. “They recruit dudes like me to win football games, but it's more so what Notre Dame could do for us, for the players after they finish playing football."

Stuckey also played a significant role in the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder’s decision.

"He was big,” Gilbert said. “We sat down and talked some football, talked about how we could develop and everything. I got to spend a lot of time with him. He's just a good dude, very relatable. He's on the younger side, so you can relate to him a lot more than other coaches."

Gilbert is looking forward to contributing to the team as a reliable receiver who can be counted on to make difficult catches.

"Somebody who can get the ball on third down,” he said of how the Irish described what his role would be. “Somebody who's able to make the hard catches and go get the ball."

He's also excited to reunite with his Charlotte Christian High School teammate Bryce Young, who committed to Notre Dame last week.

"It feels great,” said Gilbert. “Bryce is one of my closest friends, so it feels cool to have a familiar face up there coming with me."

Gilbert will be back in South Bend for another visit the first week of June.
