2018 Mobile Christian School (Ala.) defensive end Andres Fox is one of the most sought after prospects in the country. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee and USC to name a few.
Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston got the Irish in the race by offering the four-star prospect on Wednesday.
“I spoke with the defensive line coach and he offered today,” Fox told Irish Sports Daily. “I don’t know much about Notre Dame. I heard it’s a great school so I am going to do my research on it.”
One of the first people to congratulate Fox on his new offer was fellow 2018 four-star defensive end Tyreke Smith, who is also a high priority target for the Irish.
“We’re pretty close,” said Fox.
The Alabama native is just what Notre Dame is looking for in a rush end prospect. Fox is a long and athletic player that could very well be a nightmare off the edge in a few seasons.
“I am quick off the ball and I am good at using my length,” stated Fox. “I am good at using the rip move.”
Now that the 2018 class is front and center, Fox is definitely getting out on visits but he has stayed local for the most part. However, that will change later this spring as he plans to get to Notre Dame.
“I am going to schools close by right now,” explained Fox. “I have visited Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Georgia. That’s about it right now.
“My coach and I are planning on getting to Notre Dame this spring or summer.”
While Michigan and Ohio State haven’t reached out just yet, it’s hard not to see many ties to Southern schools. With offers from in-state powerhouses it’d be easy to say Fox is staying home for college but he hasn’t made that call just yet.
“I am undecided at the moment,” Fox said of if he was open to leaving the state.
On his visits, Fox will pay close attention to see if schools have his desired major as well as the strengthening relationships with those recruiting him.
“I am looking at academics first,” said Fox. “Then I am looking at building relationships with the coaches and everything like that. I want to major in Engineering.”
