BREAKING | 2024 DT Sean Sevillano Jr. Commits To Notre Dame
The prestige of Notre Dame’s football program, the academics offered by the University and the faith-based atmosphere played major roles in Sean Sevillano Jr.’s decision.
But in the end, it was the people who led to the 2024 defensive tackle making a verbal commitment to Notre Dame, which he announced on Friday afternoon.
“The great people over there,” Sevillano told Irish Sports Daily prior to making his decision public.
“Great place, big stage and great faith over there.”
The Clearwater Academy International standout chose the Irish over his other finalists, Ohio State, Auburn and Miami.
He pointed to head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive coordinator Al Golden, defensive line coach Al Washington and defensive line assistant Nick Sebastian.
“It's a great staff from Coach Freeman being a defensive-minded guy, Coach Golden, his experience in the NFL and Coach Washington being a great developer as a defensive line coach,” Sevillano said.
Sevillano gives the Irish 17 verbal commits in the Class of 2024 and is the fourth defensive line commit, joining ends Loghan Thomas, Bryce Young and Cole Mullins.
“It starts with all the coaches,” he reiterated. “All of them, I think, are great people starting with Coach Freeman. Getting to know him, I can really see his vision for Notre Dame. I believe Coach Washington and Coach (Sebastian) are guys who can develop me to get to the next level. I think they can do that. They've shown that they can do that.
“And Coach Golden, just coming from the NFL, it's a very pro-like system, which I think will get me ready for the NFL.”
Initially, Sevillano planned to take multiple official visits before making his decision, but decided he was ready to do so now, even before an official visit to South Bend later this month.
“It's something that I wanted to do; commit early to make sure I could just focus on football, be the best football player, teammate and person I can and not have to worry about having my spot at the next level,” he explained.
“For me, I was able to figure out; that, 'Hey, these are the right people, the right place that I feel that I can succeed at the next level.' When I felt that, to me it was a no-brainer.”
Sevillano is thrilled to have the process behind him and to be a member of the Irish.
“Dude, it was a big pressure off my shoulders,” he laughed. “I am beyond excited because this is something I dreamt of since I was a young kid and I started playing football.
“So, it's a huge relief to be able to have that spot and just super excited for this opportunity for me and my family.”
