After working out for Notre Dame at Thursday’s Evaluation Camp, Taebron Bennie-Powell was extended a scholarship offer by Irish head coach Marcus Freeman.
“He just basically offered me and then he told me to take my time, think about it and call when I get back home,” the 2024 Ohio safety told Irish Sports Daily afterward.
“I was excited. This is one of my biggest offers, so I was definitely excited.”
Bennie-Powell’s offer sheet also includes schools like Duke, West Virginia and Pitt among others.
He’s been to South Bend before and has been in touch with the coaches leading up to today’s visit.
“They watched my film and they just wanted to see me move around, see if I can do safety stuff, like open my hips and things like that,” the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder said.
The Lakota West High School standout pointed to the Irish staff as one reason he considers Notre Dame his top offer.
“Just the coaches,” he said. “Right now, it's just the coaches. I like how they coach, just by the camp and just how they were talking to me and everything.”
He spent most of time on Thursday with Irish safeties coach Chris O’Leary.
“He’s got a lot energy,” Bennie-Powell said of O’Leary. “I love him, though. I love him.”
Bennie-Powell isn’t sure yet about a definitive timeline, but did allow the possibility of one coming relatively soon.
