2024 LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Goes In-Depth On Notre Dame Official
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa was back in South Bend again this weekend, this time for an official visit.
What was almost assuredly the 2024 California linebacker’s final trip to Notre Dame before making a college decision was a very positive one.
“It was great,” Viliamu-Asa told Irish Sports Daily. “I had a great time, great weekend.”
“I had a lot of meetings with staff, defensive staff, Coach (Marcus) Freeman and Admissions. They set the stage up for how I would fit in their defense and how their roles would be as coaches and my development as a player.”
Learning how he’d be used within Notre Dame’s scheme was an important component coming into the trip for the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder and the Irish checked that box.
“They see me fitting very similar to how they use Marist Liufau,” Viliamu-Asa said. “Being very versatile, being able to play in the box, but also when they need it, being able to come off the edge and blitz.
“I like that. That’s very appealing to me. That’s definitely how I’d want to be used.”
Viliamu-Asa was also told he’d essentially have multiple position coaches between defensive coordinator Al Golden, graduate assistant Max Bullough and defensive line coach Al Washington.
“Coach Bullough went over he’d be my coach more so in the box and Coach Wash would be teaching more about pass rush and my toolset coming off the edge,” Viliamu-Asa said.
“I love that. That’s all a part of my resources that I would have to be able to use and make me better as a player, to be able to have multiple things in my toolbox to make me more versatile and more valuable.”
Viliamu-Asa was once again impressed by the off-the-field opportunities in South Bend.
“I had a meeting with Admissions as far as my admittance into Mendoza and her advice on my transition from high school to college,” he explained. “And another one just touching upon Finance and the type of opportunities in Mendoza. It was really good.”
Following his previous trip to South Bend back in April, Viliamu-Asa talked about learning how guys like Liufau and Junior Tuihalamaka had basically set themselves up for the rest of their lives by choosing Notre Dame. That was again drilled into him this past weekend.
“It’s definitely opened my eyes to the type of network at Notre Dame, just the type of people I’ve been able to meet and encounter,” he said.
He also enjoyed reconnecting with Tuihalamaka and Liufau while on campus.
“It was really good for me to get around the players, specifically Junior and Marist,” he said. “It was good to get around them because they were in the situation I’m in currently, thinking about leaving home and going far away for school and making a very necessary sacrifice to set up success down the line.”
Viliamu-Asa took an official visit to USC earlier in the month and takes his final official of the process to Ohio State next week. He’ll make a decision shortly after the trip to Columbus, but hasn’t chosen a date yet.
“Not an exact date, but definitely before the season,” he said. “Probably in July.”
Viliamu-Asa has maintained all three schools are essentially in a tie to land him and reiterated as much following the visit, although it’s obvious both officials so far have made tremendous impacts.
“I feel really strong about USC and Notre Dame, right now.”
