2024 Notre Dame WR Commit Micah Gilbert Ready For Senior Season

Micah Gilbert‍ and his Charlotte Christian High School teammates have a simple goal.

“We're going for the state championship,” the 2024 North Carolina receiver says.

Gilbert, who committed to Notre Dame back in May, believes they’ll have a great shot to do that if they stay healthy.

And even with top players like himself and fellow Notre Dame commit, defensive lineman Bryce Young‍, Gilbert points to the guys off the field among the biggest reasons why.

“I would say just our schemes and coaching as a whole,” he says. “We have a lot of advanced stuff that most high-schoolers don't run and just great coaching overall as a program.”

The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder has individual goals of his own as well.

“Personally, I'm going for at least 14 touchdowns and 1,400 all-purpose yards,” he says.

As much as he’s improved physically, Gilbert believes he has the experience to have his best season yet.

“I just think I've been playing football enough,” he says. “I'm going into my senior year, so I played at the high school level long enough.

“The game has kind of slowed down more and I'm starting to understand football higher up now. It's like the game has slowed down and I understand more coverages and assignments and stuff like that.”

He’s also ready to receive tons of attention from opposing defenses.

“I think I'll be good with it,” says Gilbert. “I've never been a guy who shied away from having a target on his back. And honestly, I invite it, so I'm going to go out each day, compete, take on the challenge and just play my best.”

Like most Irish commits, Gilbert is scheduled to be back in South Bend for next month’s game against Ohio State.

“It is going to be a crazy environment,” he says. “I can't wait.”

He says the 2024 commits already have tight relationships.

“We're all pretty close,” he says. “We have group chat messages. We talk a good amount. We all have a good relationship with each other.”

Gilbert is one of several commits who will be enrolling in January and believes it will help him get his college career started.

“Getting a head start playbook-wise and just trying to get more adjusted to school especially, and just put my name out there to try to get on the field as early as possible.”
