2025 San Ramon Valley (Calif.) linebacker Marco Jones‍ was offered by Notre Dame on St. Patrick’s Day and he’ll be on campus for one of college football’s biggest games of the 2023 season.

The four-star prospect will make his first trip to South Bend next weekend as Ohio State comes to Notre Dame and Jones plans on soaking it all in after establishing a strong rapport with the Fighting Irish staff.

“I’ve always really wanted to get to Notre Dame,” Jones told ISD. “I’ve really been building a great relationship with the coaches over the phone and that’s something important for me. I really want to go out there and see everything for myself and get the experience of Notre Dame. I’ve only heard good things about it, so I want to see what it’s all about.”

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden has been active in Jones’ recruitment and it’s paid off with the early visit.

“Coach Golden, he’s a defensive genius,” stated Jones. “I’ve talked to him a good amount. It’s the same with Coach Bullough and Coach Caleb Davis.”

As a junior, Jones checks in at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and schools aren’t necessarily projecting him to any position as he continues to grow and fill out.

“Right now, it’s a lot of schools seeing how I grow and how big I really get and kind of just build off of that. It just depends on how big I get and how I move. I could play anywhere, but as of right now, I’m playing middle backer.”

The trip to South Bend won’t be the only visit Jones makes this fall as he has already made one and has a couple more locked into his schedule.

“I’m doing a few game day visits,” Jones said. “I just went to the Cal-Auburn game this past weekend at Cal. I’m also going to the Washington-Oregon game at Washington. I’m going to Utah at USC too.”

Jones, a California native, has also been paying attention to all the conference realignment moves, but it won’t impact his recruitment at all.

“To be honest, it’s not something a super big deal for me. Ideally, if you’re at a program, I want to win. That’s my goal. It’s actually pretty cool because there are a lot of guys who may stay local who may not necessarily get a chance to experience or play in other states.”

The San Ramon Valley star is also taking a mature approach to his recruitment as he’s taking it slow and making visits to find out what he likes and doesn’t like before narrowing his process down.

“I’m just keeping my options open as long as I can,” said Jones. “I’m just trying to see where home is going to be. It’s hard to make decisions when you haven’t really gotten to see places. I really want to make my visits and get this whole experience because you only get it one time.”
