James Flanigan‍ has been to Notre Dame multiple times this year, but Saturday night was different.

“It was awesome,” the 2025 Wisconsin tight end told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “The game was great and we all rushed out on the field after. It was just electric in there.

“It was my first real game. I went to the spring game before, but the stadium was packed. I got to talk with a bunch of other guys as well. It was an exciting game and I had a great time.”

The Green Bay native had the chance to connect with 2025 offensive lineman Owen Strebig, who is also from Wisconsin, as well as Bryce Young and Jerome Bettis Jr., who like Flanigan, are the sons of former Irish standouts.

He was able to speak with several Irish staff , including head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

“It was just good to see him again,” Flanigan said of Parker. “They really want me there. They made that clear to me.

Freeman delivered the same message.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder said the Irish have treated him like he’s a true priority.

“Just by showing me what they have to offer,” he said.

After a round of visits to top schools over the summer, Flanigan has taken a couple other trips already this fall and has one more in mind.

“I went to Stanford a couple weeks ago, and then Michigan probably a month ago,” he said. “We might get to the Wisconsin game against Ohio State.”

His focus for the next few weeks will be on his own high school season, but likes where thing currently are with the Irish.

“Everything's going good with Notre Dame and I really like Notre Dame,” he said.

As for a decision timeline, he isn’t 100 percent sure just yet.

“Kind of thinking maybe after the season, that could change for sure.”
