Kevyn Humes‍ made his second trip to South Bend last weekend for Notre Dame’s game against USC and the 2025 Maryland cornerback left impressed.

“Everything went great,” Humes told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a great atmosphere. The coaches showed a lot of love and there was a great overall performance from Notre Dame.

“The stadium was packed, but I wouldn't say just filling it out. There was a lot of enthusiasm within all the fans, which shined bright to me.”

The St. Frances Academy star had the chance to speak with head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive coordinator Al Golden, cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and pretty much the entire defensive staff.

“Coach Mickens is a real good ball coach,” said Humes. “He puts his corners in positions where they're going to win, and he really coaches them up. He has a knack for playing freshmen, which I really like. I got to see #29 (Christian Gray) who was a true freshman out there a couple times, which was good for me to see.”

The coaches sort of called their shot in a way before kickoff.

“They were just telling me to watch this game,” said Humes. “They were just telling me, ‘Let the play speak for itself.’  It definitely did.

“I was really impressed with the secondary, Coach Mickens' group. They had the best performance I've seen against Caleb Williams in my entire life.”

Humes is from the same part of Maryland as Williams and they played in the same youth program.

“He was like four years ahead of me,” Humes said of Williams. “I grew up watching Caleb play, but I've never seen him have a game like that.”

The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder spoke to several recruits, including 2024 quarterback commit CJ Carr and 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight.

“They all seemed like good people and friendly,” Humes said.

Humes will be at Oregon this weekend and then at Alabama in a couple weeks.

He said he’ll be keeping Notre Dame in his mind as he moves forward.
