2025 CA C Shane Miranda Gives Commitment to Notre Dame

2025 St. Augustine (Calif.) catcher Shane Miranda had always known about Notre Dame growing up and he was able to live out a childhood dream this week as he gave his pledge to the Fighting Irish.

“Notre Dame has always been a really big part of my family,” Miranda told ISD. “I grew up watching their football games and I remember going over to my grandma’s house and they would have Notre Dame football reruns going all the time. Everyone was wearing Notre Dame anything.”

The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was looking for a family atmosphere during his recruitment and Notre Dame checked the boxes with ease.

“It really reminds me of family and I know that’s what Notre Dame is going to bring to me,” stated Miranda. “Not only will my family enjoy it because they’ve built a great relationship with mine, but when I go there, everyone there will treat me like family.”

Notre Dame assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Logan Robbins gave Miranda a call on the first day 2025 prospects could be contacted and the relationship took off.

Miranda was able to not only forge a strong relationship, but the St. Augustine star greatly appreciated the laidback approach Robbins brought to the recruitment.

“Ever since day one, Coach Robbins called and introduced himself to me, he was really outgoing and he wasn’t treating me like he was a coach or scary coach,” explained Miranda. “He was always welcoming me and he wanted to get to know my family very quickly, which I really enjoyed. Coach Robbins has always wanted to connect on a personal level with me instead of just on the baseball aspect.”

The California native has yet to see Notre Dame for himself, but several members of his family have been to South Bend and gave their blessing on the commitment.

“I have not, but many of my family members have been,” Miranda said. “My grandpa was just out there over the winter, so they’ve had some pretty great things to say. Nobody has ever gone to that campus and said that it wasn’t for them.”

Notre Dame’s coaching staff has pushed playing in the ACC, but they’ve also put a significant emphasis on academics and that resonated quickly with Miranda.

“It played a big role,” Miranda explained. “I go to a private Catholic school as it is right now, so I’ve always taken academics seriously. I’ve tried my best to keep the best grades that I can and I think that what paid off for me to even have the resume to go here.”

As for his game, Miranda brings a much-needed power bat to the Irish lineup, but he also takes a great deal of pride in being mentally sharp and leading his team with his actions and voice.

“I think my biggest strength right now is my IQ and my leadership on the field,” said Miranda. “I’ve really built my IQ in practice to be higher than any other catcher in California. I’d put myself up against anyone in the country. I’m always three plays ahead of everyone.

“I love my leadership because I’m one of the most vocal guys on the field. I’m not afraid to help check my teammates, keep them boosted and I always stay positive with them.”

Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting signed on the dotted line on Wednesday, but the Irish didn’t sign a catcher. Miranda was well aware of the hole, but he would have picked the Irish regardless even if they had signed a catcher in 2024.

“It did play a small role knowing they don’t have a catcher in the 2024 class does boost my chances of playing statistically speaking,” stated Miranda. “Even if they did, I would take myself over anybody. I’m never one to bet against myself.”

Notre Dame’s recent success also caught the eye of Miranda. The trip to Omaha has left a lasting impression on many recruits and it only adds fuel to the fire for Miranda as he knows it’s possible for him.

“Seeing them go to Omaha was definitely a big factor,” said Miranda. “I know that team is capable of winning. I know Notre Dame is capable of making it to Omaha and hopefully, they can do it again while I’m there and I can be part of it.

“There’s nothing that compares to Notre Dame. I wouldn’t change my mind a million times out of a million.”
