Film Don't Lie | Dom Hulak
There’s a ton of value with in-person evaluations. Notre Dame’s staff clearly feels that way as they’ve just added a fourth commitment in the 2025 class from someone who camped at Notre Dame this summer.
That someone is Dom Hulak, another hybrid defender who plays mostly off the ball, but his future in college could be rushing off the edge. He’s a long athlete with intriguing tools.
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 225
Projected Position: Money (Marist Liufau’s position)
ISD Grade: 89 (3-star)
National Average Grade: 88.7 (3-star)
What he does best:
I mentioned that he plays as an off the ball linebacker, but the thing that he does best is help at multiple positions. He lines up at tight end and fullback on offense and in addition to linebacker, he’s played nose, 3-technique defensive tackle, and lined up as an edge.
Here he is doing that and you can see the kind of acceleration he has to close on the quarterback.
He flashes a very good first step and he also showed the ability to bend and wrap during one on ones at Notre Dame’s camp.
Hulak eats up ground with his stride and can really run. He can make plays on the perimeter.
Anyone who could be described as a “ball player” is someone that’s good to have on your roster. Hulak is a ball player.
What he needs to improve:
He’s not a natural fit as an inside linebacker. He’s an athlete who can run down plays and shows enough fluidity in his drops, but he doesn’t diagnose things quickly right now. He’s more just reacting to it.
I think he’d benefit from switching to the edge full time and working exclusively there, but obviously his high school program is going to do whatever is best for them to win. And they win a lot.
What’s his ceiling?
I think he has a chance to develop into a good pass rusher. He has the physical tools to even be a Marist Liufau type who plays linebacker and then switches to the edge on 3rd downs.
I have him ranked as a high 3-star prospect right now, but that could change as he gets bigger. He looks like he is going to need some time to physically and technically develop, but I like his upside, the program that he plays in right now, and the fact that he can make a jump once he starts specializing at one position.
He has sub-package value.
