Notre Dame Names Loren Landow Director of Football Performance
Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman have named a new Director of Football Performance as Loren Landow will take over for the position Matt Balis vacated earlier this year.
Landow, a Northern Colorado alum, comes to South Bend from the private sector, but was recently the head strength and conditioning coach of the Denver Broncos from 2018-2023.
“When we sat down to evaluate what exactly we wanted from this role, we identified several characteristics as being critical to the success of the position,” said Freeman in a statement. “We need someone who can reinforce the vision of the head coach and uphold the standards in discipline that it takes to create a championship environment. We need someone who has a background in group training, yet the expertise to individualize training to meet specific individual’s needs and goals. We need someone who can enhance our approach in regards to power, explosion and speed development.
“Loren Landow is all of these things. He has demonstrated incredible expertise in the strength and conditioning field and will truly help us advance our sports performance program and our sports science knowledge. Loren has worked both in a team setting and in the private sports performance industry, and his ability to elevate his athletes’ production is impressive, particularly when it comes to speed and explosiveness. He is an authentic and commanding leader, with an alpha personality and those are the traits I was looking for when it comes to fulfilling such a vital position on our staff.”
He also owns Landow Sports Performance, which has been open since 2007 where he has trained over 1,000 professional athletes, including 70 NFL All-Pros and over 20 first round NFL Draft picks.
Per Landow Performance’s website, Landow specializes in maximizing human performance, while also decreasing the chances of injury.
“The heart of Coach Landow’s training philosophy is to maximize human performance efficiently and effectively, while decreasing the likelihood of injury. His science-based training methods make proper movement mechanics second nature for athletes, thus allowing them to “do all the right things from the wrong positions” such as those that often manifest in sport. “He has developed appropriate training protocols relative to particular athletes based on a nuanced understanding of the differences between individual bodies, as well as the biomechanical requirements of various sports. His sequencing of training and micro progressions is created to drive superior training responses at the optimal times, while developing specific Bio-Motor abilities for all sports using a unique needs analysis for each athlete.” |
Landow has also done NFL Combine training with David Bakhtiari, Christian McCaffrey and Austin Ekeler.
Former Notre Dame quarterback and Denver Bronco, Brady Quinn gave high remarks on the hire.
“Loren is a world-renowned movement and sports performance coach,” Quinn said. “I can attest from personal experience, there is no one better suited to fulfill the role and help Notre Dame be the preeminent leader in sports performance. Coach Freeman knocked this one out of the park.”
