Notre Dame Football Recruiting

National Signing Day | Notre Dame Offense

December 20, 2023
7,727

Notre Dame is set to sign an impressive 11 offensive player class on Wednesday and it’s led by quarterback CJ Carr‍, who is already on campus going through preparations for the Sun Bowl next week.

What’s more impressive is Notre Dame was able to land its top prospects at several positions, including Carr, running backs Kedren Young‍ and Aneyas Williams‍, receiver Cam Williams‍ and offensive lineman Guerby Lambert‍.

Williams will go down as one of the most productive running backs in Missouri high school football history and probably the country. The four-star back tallied 4,255 rushing yards and 3,249 receiving yards during his high school career. Williams’ 152 touchdowns ranks No. 2 all-time in Missouri history.

Young rushed for over 1,700 yards as a junior and followed that up with a solid senior campaign as he ran for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Cam Williams tallied over 1,500 yards of total offense this season while scoring 14 touchdowns.

The staff identified offensive lineman Anthonie Knapp‍ early in the cycle, made him a priority and believe he could be one of the best in the country when all is said and done. In-state offensive lineman Styles Prescod‍ is also in the same boat as he was an early offer and he only ascended as a senior. Peter Jones‍ made a quick decision after Notre Dame came strong early in his process.

Notre Dame will also sign one of the most productive pass-catching tight ends in the country as Jack Larsen‍ tallied 724 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior.

Four-star receiver Logan Saldate‍ flipped his commitment from Oregon State without ever visiting Notre Dame and never looked back. Saldate proved the evaluation right as he caught 68 balls for 1,242 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior - and led his team to a state title.

And not to be outdone, Micah Gilbert‍ recorded 76 catches for 1,1105 yards and 10 touchdowns while also making three interceptions on defense.

“Carr has the potential to be one of the top quarterbacks in the country because of his ability to make every throw he has to from the pocket and his ability to create outside of the framework of the play is special. He’s been committed for so long that I think some Notre Dame fans have been enamored with other quarterbacks, but Carr should be a contender to start in 2025 and has all of the tools to become great.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE

“I think people might look at him and think of him as a situational player, but his versatility means he should be someone who can play every down. There’s a lot of similarities with his game and Kyren Williams’ when he signed with the Irish five years ago. I’m a big fan of his game and think his game is suited more for what Notre Dame will run on offense rather than what his high school ran. His ability as a receiver should help him shine.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“They’ve just recruited me really well. Their coaching staff is really good. I’ve just really enjoyed all of the relationships I’ve made with them. They’re just always known for competing at the top level and I like that.”

“Young has tremendous lateral agility and there aren’t many big backs like him who can make defenders miss just as much as they can run them over. He can be far more than a big back who relies on power. Don’t be surprised if he jumps into the mix as a true freshman and finds a role in the 2024 offense.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“It's not even just about the name. It's about the opportunity. It's a great school, great people, but it is what the degree could do for me. The football program is amazing. The degree is top-notch. It’s going to be a great opportunity for me when I'm done with Notre Dame, I'll be set for the next 30 years of my life.”

ISD EXPERT JAMIE UYEYAMA
“Gilbert is in the same mold as current Notre Dame receivers Jayden Thomas and Jaden Greathouse. Maybe they don’t have elite 40 times, but they know how to get open and create separation when they are covered. He has the potential to develop into a quality starter on the boundary or be another bigger slot option that can be a mismatch against smaller nickel defenders. Notre Dame needed to add another receiver who fit this profile this cycle and they landed a good one.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“I just feel like they have the ability to develop me to the best of my ability. It’s a great atmosphere and all the players love being there. It was great to be around all the players and hear what they thought from the inside of the school. I just fell in love with it.”

“Saldate has a running back mentality after the catch and the speed to get deep. He can win contested catches better than a lot of bigger options. He’ll need some time to develop as a route runner, but he’s a high-ceiling addition who should be able to play the field or the slot.”

“Williams isn’t as college-ready as someone like Jaden Greathouse was when he enrolled last January. He’ll have some catching up to do in terms of learning the offense and adding polish to his game, but his talent is undeniable. He has elite speed and I have a hard time imagining him not finding some kind of role next fall. If he only projected as a big play guy, that would be great for the Irish. He can be more than that, though. He has WR1 qualities. Quite simply, he’s the best wide receiver prospect Notre Dame has signed since Michael Floyd.”

ISD EXPERT JAMIE UYEYAMA
“I see someone with the potential to be a high-level H-back at Notre Dame who can line up and create mismatches in different alignments. To me, Larsen is one of the most underrated prospects in the class and what he did at Irish Invasion back in 2022 has stuck with me. With other top tight ends in attendance competing for scholarships, Larsen outclassed all of them. The key for him will be getting big and strong enough to contribute as a run blocker, but he’ll never be a traditional in-line option. That’s okay as long as Notre Dame leans into his skills as a receiver and I think he has the chance to be a great option out of the slot.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“The education speaks for itself. The tight end excellence is unlike many other schools. Coming from a Catholic school to Notre Dame, it just feels right with the Catholic faith.”

“Jones has rare athletic qualities for a player who is already built like he could step into a college program. He could be downright scary a few years from now with his combination of size and agility. His movement skills really jump out with the way he can get to the second level. I see him as an interior-only prospect, but that’s not a bad thing with three others in this class who have the potential to play tackle for the Irish.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“Definitely a great, great, great guy, super genuine, definitely a good person (Freeman). Knows what he's doing, has an edge to him that obviously everyone respects, brings a lot of energy, but definitely can relate to us.”

ISD EXPERT JAMIE UYEYAMA
“I think Knapp has the potential to develop into a quality starter for multiple seasons with the proper physical development and in that sense, he reminds me a lot of Robert Hainsey. He put in the work and looked how it paid off for him. An easy mover who loves to finish in the run game, Knapp might end up playing multiple positions on the line while at Notre Dame.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“I actually committed on the spot when they offered. They told me to sleep on it. My family told me to sleep on, so I was like, 'Alright, I'll sleep on it.' So I called them 9 am the next morning and I said, 'Hey, I'm committing. I didn't change my mind.'

“I already knew where I wanted to go. I was just waiting on the offer to be honest. As soon as I stepped in those doors, I was like, 'Alright, this is home.' And then once I had the offer, it was a done deal.”

ISD EXPERT JAMIE UYEYAMA
“He has all of the tools to develop into one of the better tackles in college football and then eventually into a high NFL Draft pick. I don’t think he’s scratched the surface of where he’s going to be once he improves his technique and gets stronger. He may never be a true mauler, but I see a lot of Ronnie Stanley in his game where he will win his athleticism over raw power. After watching him as a senior, I think he’s closer to being a factor on the field than I expected and becoming a multi-year starter might happen sooner than later.”

“Prescod really checked a lot of boxes as a senior with his footwork, nastiness, and overall reactive athleticism on full display. I think he’s being slept on as an elite prospect and would probably be getting more love from Notre Dame fans if he wasn’t in the same class as Guerby Lambert. He has true left tackle traits and as long as he puts in the work, the sky's the limit for him as a player at Notre Dame.”

FAVORITE ISD QUOTE
“Notre Dame is everything you think it is and more. They have a rich history of offensive linemen. The Joe Moore Award is Notre Dame guys. The guys on the trophy are five Notre Dame offensive linemen.”
